The first career at-bat for Washington Nationals call-up James Wood went exactly as planned. Showing his plate discipline right away, the number two overall prospect in MLB worked a full count and eventually ripped a single to left field in the second inning. To make the 21-year-old's accomplishment even sweeter, it was the second-hardest first career hit ball in franchise history at 106.7 mph behind only Juan Soto's 106.8 mph (2018). "It's unreal," Wood said on his first taste of big-league action.
