On Saturday afternoon, the San Diego Padres met with and bested the Oakland Athletics, 5-2. Called to start for the Padres was first-year knuckleballer Matt Waldron. The 26-year-old, Omaha, Nebraska native spent five and 1/3 innings on the mound, allowed just two runs, and picked up five strikeouts, paving the way for his Club to leave the diamond victorious. Additionally, and remarkably, Waldron's win was the first by a knuckler in Major League Baseball since Steven Wright earned one for the Boston Red Sox on September 20th, 2018.
