Jesus Luzardo became the first Peruvian-born player to pitch in the Majors in League history. The highly regarded left-hander dominated the division-rival Houston Astros with three innings, allowing just one earned run, striking out two and retiring nine of the 10 batters he faced. Luzardo's impressive performance helped the Oakland Athletics to a 5-3 win.
