Designated hitter Jorge Soler hit a three-run home run in the third inning that was his 39th of the season. The home run moved him past former Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas, who in 2017 hit 38 home runs to break Steve Balboni's 32-year-old record of 36 in 1985. The Royals went on to win the game 6-5 on pinch-hitter Ryan O'Hearn's one-out walk-off home run in the ninth inning.
