Pool D play has officially started, and Team Israel spared no time in getting on the board, besting Team Nicaragua, 3-1, in their opener at the 2023 World Baseball Classic. After allowing a run in the fifth inning, the stage was set for an Israel comeback in the eighth. The first and game-tying run was plated by designated hitter Spencer Horowitz before a ground rule double by Garrett Stubbs drove in the game-winning and insurance runs in this tightly-contested contest.
