Boston Red Sox reliever Nick Pivetta came out in the bottom of the third inning of Monday's contest against the Oakland Athletics and immediately set the tone for the victory, 7-0. Nursing a 2-0 lead, Pivetta gave his opponents next to nothing, minimizing any chance for a comeback, allowing just one hit over six scoreless innings while striking out an astounding 13 batters. This figure is a new record for a Red Sox relief pitcher, besting Diego Seguí and Dick Radatz, who both had 12-whiff outings as a reliever during their time in Boston.
