After picking up the 249th strikeout of his 2022 Major League Baseball campaign, Gerrit Cole broke his tie with Ron Guidry for the most single-season strikeouts by a New York Yankees pitcher. This franchise-record-breaking strikeout came in the night game of yesterday's day/night doubleheader between Cole's Yankees and the Texas Rangers when he whiffed Nathaniel Lowe in the second inning. Cole went on to strike out eight more batters over his six-inning performance, making the new franchise record 257.
