In the bottom of the eighth inning, the reigning AL MVP Award winner hit a shallow fly ball into left field, which he swiftly turned into a double. It gave Ohtani 400 total bases on the season, making him the first player to reach the benchmark since 2001 (Sammy Sosa, Luis Gonzalez, Barry Bonds, and Todd Helton).
