Never to be mistaken for a fireballer that blows hitters' doors in, Kyle expertly blended pitch location with his bowling ball sinker to record a 3-0 complete game shutout over the Brewers. Hendricks' 103-pitch effort was the first Opening Day shutout since Clayton Kershaw tossed one in 2013 and the first in Cubs history since Bill Bonham blanked the Phillies 2-0 in 1974. The six-year veteran also helped rookie skipper David Ross earn his first managerial win.
