As the dust settled on Pool A play, Team Italy joins Team Cuba in Round 2 of the 2023 World Baseball Classic. The news was made final after Team Italy's 7-1 trouncing of Team Netherlands on Sunday afternoon. Team Italy exploded in the fourth inning, scoring six runs, capped by Nicky Lopez's two-run triple. Defensively, Italy's bullpen locked the game down as Vinny Nittoli, Matt Festa, and Mitchell Stumpo, in that order, closed out the game pitching one inning and allowing just one hit each, while combining for an incredible eight strikeouts.
