The veteran right-hander struck out 10 over seven innings, passing Gaylord Perry for ninth all-time with 3,535 strikeouts. Scherzer also joined Nolan Ryan as the only pitchers in MLB history with an outing of 10-plus strikeouts and one or no hits allowed at age 42-plus.
