The Florida Marlins optioned left handed starting pitcher Sean West to AA-Jacksonville after his start on Saturday.
West was sent down after being hit hard by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He failed to get through the fifth inning, allowing nine hits, four walks, and five earned runs including a three run first inning.
The 23 year old rookie starter has now allowed 5 runs in four of his last five starts. The loss on Saturday brought his record to 3-4 with a 4.91 ERA in ten starts.
West told reporters, "I have to improve on some things. I agree 100 percent with their decision. There is stuff I have to work on. That's a decision they had to make."
Due to the all-star break, the Marlins will not be needing a fifth starter until July 20th.
