Jayson Werth is about as hot as you can get. Not only has he homered in four straight games heading into Friday, he is also the newest selection to the National League all-star team.
Albeit by way of an injury to Carlos Beltran, Werth has made a strong case for his selection. Werth has now clubbed 20 home runs this season while hitting .268 and driving in 54 runs in the powerful Philadelphia Phillies lineup.
It will be the 30 year old outfielder's first all-star selection.
In Werth's three seasons with the Phillies he has come from being a platoon hitter to a force in the middle of the lineup. Last season, Werth hit 24 home runs in 418 at-bats and a .273 batting average. It also included a historic game in which the slugger hit three home runs, including a grand slam.
