Carlos Guillen took batting practice yesterday at Comerica Park, prior to the Detroit Tigers game versus the Kansas City Royals.

Guillen, sidelined since May 24 (shoulder), is hopeful of a return to action before the end of July.

The Tigers left fielder began the season battling an Achilles injury, but it was his shoulder that has cost him most of the season. Over the past two months, Guillen has undergone an aggressive rehab program and finally has begun to see results.

Tigers manager Jim Leyland cautioned against predictions of an quick return for Guillen saying "it's like he's starting spring training all over again." Guillen responded with a smile, "but spring training is too long."
